I left Michigan four years ago at a sprint. I couldn't get out fast enough. Now I live in Maryland. This is a less punishing landscape with mild winters, mild people, mild spirits. A friend recently referred to Grand Rapids Michigan (our former home town) as "the city that hates you back". I think she got that just about right.
Now I'm returning for a very brief family rendezvous. Other than family there's only two or three people I'll be seeing (hiya Chuck).
I can't wait to get back home to Maryland.
I can't wait to get back to a normal life.
I can't wait for these long lonely evenings to be over.
In the end, we all have to wait.
And this coming from "life of the party".
